Delhi Excursions: Delhi is both one of the oldest and newest cities in the world. The contrasts are enormous and do represent the contrasts that are descriptive of the whole country. Modern Delhi spreads over the remains of several older city centres that once ruled the country. Old Delhi consists of narrow alleyways, packed markets and houses built very close together. New Delhi has spacious boulevards shaded by leafy trees, with designed roundabouts. It was planned and designed by the British architect Edward Lutyen. Today it is one of the fastest growing cities of India and the new economic wealth of a few is slowly seeping through to the growing middle classes. Its multi-layered existence is tantalizing and the experience is unique.

Experience The sight seeing tour of Delhi will include visiting the Raj Ghat – a momorial site where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated, Jama Masjid the largest mosque in India and the Red Fort – once the most opulent fort and palace of the Moghul Empire. You will also visit the Humanyuns Tomb and the Qutub Minar. There will be choices to spend an evening at the ‘Light and Sound Show’ and to enjoy a sumptuous meal at one of best luxury hotels in Delhi.

Bharatpur Once the royal hunting reserve of the princes of Bharatpur, it is one of the finest bird sanctuaries in the world. Inundated with over 400 species of water birds, exotic migratory birds from Afghanistan, Central Asia, Tibet and China.

Colonies of cormorants, spoon bills, storks, egrets, herons, pelicans, ebis and grey herons can be spotted all over the park. Bharatpur is popular for its bird sanctuary near the Keoladeo Ghana National Park. Every year large number of migratory birds arrive by August and leave in February. Visitors include Coot, Snipes, Spanish Sparrow, Red Crested Porthard, Rosy Pelican and Flamingo. The special attraction remains the arrival of rare Siberian cranes.

Experience There are well-defined treks, which can easily be covered on foot or on a cycle or you can hire a rickshaw. Boats are also available on hire and a boat trip early in the morning or late evening is quite a rewarding experience. Do not forget to carry binoculars for watching the birds.
